Peterson Pirates alumni

Welcome all Marian A. Peterson Pirates alumni!

Brian Boitano, Olympic Gold Medalist and multiple World Champion in men's figure skating, comes to mind. Looks like he was part of the class of 81. Did anybody remember him from school?

I played basketball with a high school quarterback legend in Ben Bennett, class of 80. Ben went on to play football at Duke University, before embarking on a prolific pro career in arena football.

Anybody else?

Bill Pecota (class of 77 or 78?) played Major League Baseball for the Kansas City Royals, New York Mets and Atlanta Braves from 1986 - 1994. He played in the NLCS while with the Braves and is listed as #66 of the greatest 100 Royals of all time.

Chuck Wirght (class of '79) spent some time on the Pro Wrestling circuit and was The Godfather.

Jeff, you're right about Chuck Wright. I never met him, but I did play basketball with his younger brother Eric, class of 82 I believe.

There was also Kurt Rambis who played basketball. His dad was a teacher. And there was Tom Bruce who was a swimmer at the same time as Mark Spitz. Don't know if Tom continued, but he did win some awards during his Senior Year (1970).

Mr. Rambis was Vice Principal when I was at Peterson ('80). I met Kurt many times, as he still lives in Manhattan Beach and is a member of my gym. Nicest guy in the world. He certainly resembles his dad.

Yeah, I believe Tom Bruce won a Silver medal for swimming, don't remember which event. I remember looking through a Gunness Book of World Records and saw a picture of Mark Spitz holding up his seven gold medals and behind him looking over his shoulder was Tom.
I just looked him up and here is a link to his record

Hello Steve I remember watching the 72 olympics on TV. I beleve Tom was favored to win the indevidual breast stroke but in the final moments the Japanese compeditor made a tremendous efort. They both broke the old olympic record but Tom was eged out of the gold.

Brian Bontano was in my art class back in the days with Mrs.Sperling. He was very creative and artistic in the assignments. You could tell he was going places. With Ben Bennett, yeah... i think we knew, he knew, he was going places, too. Was it Andy or Bill Pecota that went on to Baseball league??

He was also "Papa Shango" {some voodoo type character}. I remember he got me into "Halloween" when it first came out at the Meridan on Stevens Creek. It was an "R" rated movie and he said I was with him. Pretty cool of him to do that for me. I was also good friends with his brother, Eric, aka "Captain Cool".
Steve
aka O'Neals "little brother"
